Talk Amongst Yourselves: Hokie Football

Let me give you a topic: Who would you like to see work their way into the starting lineup for Virginia Tech in the Fall?

I think this one is obvious, but Ryan Williams. Well let me backpedal a little, I would like to see him get significant playing time, not necessarily start. Hopefully he’ll prove to be the 3rd down back we lacked last year and even get some time at receiver or in two-back sets with Evans. My real answer will be Cody Grimm, did you know his dad played for the Redskins?

Cody Grimm is my answer too, but I'd like to see if he can play rover rather than whip. His size is more suitable for a strong safety and I definitely think he has the tackling ability to make a huge impact there... the only question is, can he defend the pass well enough to play there? As of the end of last season, I would say no. I think he can get there though.

Easy one for me. Brandon Dillard. He was slated to start last year before he tore up his knee. Tech desperately needs someone to stretch the field. Boykin (hands), Coale (routes) and Roberts (quickness) showed some promise, but none of them look to be the kind of player who can get behind safeties. Dillard could really help open up the field for the other receivers, plus the TEs underneath and give Taylor more running lanes.

I would like to see Cody Journell, Bruce Taylor, and or Nubian Peak. We lost our kicker, and Cody has shown he can flat kick a football. He also opens the possibility for fakes. He was all everything in Giles. Bruce had some shoulder problems last year or he would ahve seen the field more. HE is a beast. We have not had a player of his size with his athleticism on the defense for some time. He came in looking at playing DE now he may move to LB. LBs in Bud's scheme have to know how to cover, and if they are giving him a look there he is a freak. NUBIAN is a sweet name, and the guy ran 3 sub 4.4s at a tech camp. Sub 4.4s mean he is fast. It is rumored he may enter school as the fastest player on the team. ARE YOU KIDDIN ME. PUT THEM ON THE FIELD.
