NCAA Tournament taken away, but not by UNC

Another close game ends in a loss for the Hokies, but this time it had nothing to do with the opposing team. Tyler Hansbrough was unstoppable in this one, but the "jump ball" that he supposedly earned at the end of the game was an obvious foul that was called incorrectly by the referee closest to the play. JT Thompson had the ball down low and was battling, Hansbrough reached from behind him and got his hand on Thompson's hand, which ended up being called a "jump ball", but Hansbrough got the iffy calls all game that have made him infamous with every fan who isn't pulling for UNC. The Hokies will be passed over by the Selection Committee on Sunday even though they showed they probably belong in the Big Dance. It's just so hard to get excited for the NIT, but that's where we are headed for the second straight year. This is a talented team that really underachieved this year. VT just didn't get any contributions from anyone but Vassallo, Allen, and Delaney until it was too late to matter.

I will keep tabs on the NIT tournament, but for right now, I'm just so disappointed that it's hard to write anything. 79-76 Tar Heels... Hokies get screwed yet again.

I'm excited about our chances to go all the way in the NIT, although I have to say I felt the same way last year until we blew it early on.

I'm still excited to watch the NCAA tourney and to see some big upsets. There have already been a bunch in the conference tournaments, its hard to believe we won't see a lot in the big dance.

I'm also excited that our school computer systems allow us to watch CBS on the computer, so I can silently watch games while my students take quiz after quiz for the next two thursday/fridays.

The jump ball wasn't the call that blew it for us. It was the call a few possessions before it when JT or JA was stationary and completely vertical, Hansblow turned to shoot over him and missed short off the front of the rim, and then they blew the whistle to call a flow. There was no contact on the play, and if there was contact it was initiated by hansonbros and should have been called an offensive flow. That was the call that started the string of terrible calls that cost us the game and our NCAA birth.

Hey Mr, Hey Hokie. I don't know if you know the rules of the hand being part of the ball in a dribbling or possession situation, but in that case with Tyler the hand is part of the ball. If he were to follow through on the body or if he wasn't making a play on the ball that would be another story.

Sad you guys couldn't make it this year. I'd love to see Seth play with you guys. You guys have been awesome numerous times with some big upsets of Duke and with my boys the Heels. With some of your prospects I'd love to see you guys go a ways in the tournament. Hope this helped. Have a good one!
